On Thursday 12 July, The Syrian Observer was the victim of a hacking attack for the second time in the space of 18 months.
The attackers published on our homepage what looked like an advertisement to recruit women and children to participate in the shooting of a documentary film in Hassakeh. While this can sound inoffensive, some pro-regime media took a screenshot of the homepage with the fake ad and said that the documentary project was part of a concerted effort to stage a chemical attack and blame the Syrian government for it.
Several other Syria-related websites and social media pages were also victims of the same hackers.
The Syrian Observer condemns very strongly this attack, which was meant to harm it and harm all its stakeholders, including its readers.
We apologize to all our readers and other stakeholders and while we cannot guarantee that similar attacks will not happen again we will put all our efforts to protect further the website.
Thank you for your support.
