Kurdish Asayish forces have arrested a number of activists in the city of Afrin, north of Aleppo, on Tuesday evening.
The arrests came after the storming of a number of offices of civil society organizations. The head of Civil Defense, Badrakhan Mustafa, and his wife, Novruz Mustafa, were among the detainees.
The Asayish forces also arrested Serbest Gadro, Dilshan Kanjo, Juan Omar, Farzat, Zero and Omar Omar, Murat Kara Ali, Dr. Rezan Hamddouch, Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Battaal Zadeh, and Midya Mustafa from the Buhar Association, as well as Sheikh Amin and Zakaria Zade, and Ara news agency’s Jihan Misto.
Violations monitoring body Bercav condemned the arrest, saying: "Those who want to build nations and communities do not arrest civil society activists. We condemn this action and reject the abuses against civil society activists under false pretenses, in a time when people are in need of their services."
On November 29, the Kurdish self-administration in the province of Hassakeh arrested activist Gulal Layani at his home and transported him to its headquarters in the region, according to the Syrian Network for Human Rights.
