Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria, affiliated with the Russian Ministry of Defense, announced on Wednesday militants of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) are planning to attack Khmeimim Airbase with drones and missiles.
Major General Oleg Yegorov, deputy chief of the Russian Reconciliation Center, said, based on information obtained, HTS militants are plotting an attack against the Russian airbase in Khmeimim “with the use of combat unmanned aerial vehicles and self-made MLRS with extended-range capability.”
Russian TASS cited Yegorov as saying that attacks are planned to be launched from the mountainous area in Ubin, Kafr Din, Qayqoun and Kabanah, located in the Lattakia province in the Idleb de-escalation zone.
Additionally, the center called on the armed groups to abstain from “provocations and to embark on the path of peaceful settlement in the areas under their control.”
Early in November, the center said the HTS militants and the Turkistan Islamic Party were preparing to attack the Russian base with the use of combat unmanned aerial vehicles and kamikaze drones.
ISIS
Meanwhile, Islamic State Organization (ISIS) claimed on Wednesday responsibility for targeting a military vehicle belonging to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in a town west of Deir-ez-Zor, east Syria.
ISIS-run Amaq news agency publicized a statement in which it said the organization’s militants targeted, with machineguns, an SDF military vehicle nearby al-Hisan Roundabout, 5 kilometers west of Deir-ez-Zor.
It added that the attack wounded three SDF fighters and damaged their vehicle.
ISIS has claimed responsibility for two operations in the SDF-held areas since an audio record by the group’s spokesman Abu Omar al-Muhajer, announcing the death of al-Hassan al-Hashimi was publicized.
