Health Ministry Launches Oral Cholera Vaccination Campaign in Several Provinces

The Ministry of Health launched on Sunday an oral cholera vaccination campaign in several provinces.

The campaign targets all children who are above the age of one in the countryside of Aleppo, Hassakeh, Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor, and will continue until Dec. 15th.

According to the Director of the Primary Health Care Department at the Ministry, Dr. Razan Tarabishi the campaign is being implemented through 63 health centers, 685 mobile teams, and with the participation of 2,269 health workers.

Syria Receives Two Million Doses of Oral Cholera Vaccine

Tarabishi added that the vaccine is safe, approved, and used worldwide successfully and has proven its effectiveness and that the people who cannot receive it are pregnant and breastfeeding women and those with severe diseases.

Dr. Tarabishi affirmed that the epidemiological situation of the disease is under control and in a phase of decreasing, and the basis for disease prevention remains the use of water, eating food from a safe source, in addition to adhering to public health behaviour, particularly hand washing.
