Hassakeh: KNC Condemns PYD Attack on Maabadah Local Council

The Kurdish National Council (KNC) condemned the recent terrorist attack carried out by Democratic Union Party (PYD) militants on Maabada (Karkiliki) local council in the northern Hassakeh province.

PYD militants on Monday detonated an improvised explosive device in front of the council’s office, causing damage to the building.

The National Council said that the attack represents an act of revenge against its national project, and came in response to the KNC’s participation in the Geneva negotiations alongside the Syrian opposition. It also said that the attack aims to undermine Syria’s national unity.

Maabada’s local council was previously targeted by several similar attacks which the KNC said was aimed at scaring citizens away from embracing the national project.

The KNC pointed out that Maabada’s local council has worked to express the voices of Syrians who yearn for freedom and who joined the revolution against Assad’s’ rule since the beginning. The local council also called for the realization of the legitimate national rights of Syria’s Kurds in accordance with international norms and laws, the KNC added.
