The Syrian National Committee for International Humanitarian Law, in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross, organized Sunday a workshop under the slogan “(international humanitarian law) means of national implementation and legislative harmonization” at the Sheraton Damascus Hotel.
“Syria is one of the pioneer countries in raising awareness oN international humanitarian law, and has achieved numerous steps in this regard”, the Deputy Minister of Foreign and Expatriates, the Chairman of the Syrian National Committee for International Humanitarian Law, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, said at the opening of the workshop.

The diplomat added that “Syria is working to fulfill its obligations related to international humanitarian law, and harmonize it with the national legislation ratified by the Syrian Arab Republic”.
The Head of the International Committee of Red Cross’s delegation in Syria, Christoph Martin, said that the International Committee of the Red Cross is a non-governmental and unbiased humanitarian organization whose main goal is to provide humanitarian assistance and prevent suffering and promote international humanitarian law principles in cooperation with government agencies.
