Turkey's FM meets new Syrian opposition leader

The Syrian opposition websites and social media pages have published The Anadolu News Agency's story on a meeting between Turkey's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and the newly elected leader of the Syrian National Coalition Ahmad Assi Jarba in Turkish capital Ankara on Tuesday.

 

The Anadolu News Agency reported that Davutoglu came together with Jarba at the ministry's residence where Turkish minister congratulated Jarba as he was recently elected to lead the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces.

 

Davutoglu also congratulated the holy month of Ramadan of the Syrian delegation and said, "As today is the first day of Ramadan, I will break this year's first fasting with my family in Nizip town of southeastern province of Gaziantep with Syrian friends staying in Turkey. I hope this Ramadan will be the last Ramadan that our Syrian friends continue with their struggle."

 

"As Turkey, we will always stand next to the Syrian people. We take the Syrian National Coalition as the representative of the Syrian people. I congratulate you once again", said Turkish foreign minister.

 

He highlighted that this Ramadan was the third Ramadan that some of the Syrian citizens were spending in Turkey and said, "We do our utmost for all Syrian citizens who stay in Turkey to spend their Ramadan in the best way."

 

Furthermore, Ahmad Jarba who became the leader of the Coalition after a leadership overhaul this month highlighted that they wanted to pay a visit to Davutoglu at first hand after the elections and he thanked Turkish government for their support in regards to the Syria crisis.

 

He touched on the deep-rooted relations of two countries in history and said, "We need your help and support at all times during these hard days. Please show your political stance in the highest power within the scope of helping us."
