Turkey Deploys Military Reinforcements to Syria Border

Decision to intervene comes after the Kurdish forces attempted to create an independent Kurdish entity in northern Syria, Turkish media reports

Turkey’s army continues to send military reinforcements toward the Syrian-Turkish border following reports in the Turkish press about Turkey's intention to intervene militarily in some regions of northern Syria.

Reports state 32 tanks as well as vehicles transporting troops departed from the headquarters of the Fifth Armored Brigade in Gaziantep province toward the town of Elibeli near Killis, where they will likely be stationed.

The Turkish army mobilized armored vehicles on Monday towards points on the border with Syria, in the provinces of Gaziantep and Killis in the south of the country.

In a related development, a Turkish citizen released a video clip showing ISIS fighters mining the northern regions of Syria with explosives, adjacent to the city of Jarablus.
Sources claim Turkish security forces tightened precautionary procedures when ISIS fighters approached the border.

Turkish Yeni Safak newspaper reported from sources close to the Turkish intelligence that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has agreed with Prime Minister Ahmed Davutoglu on military intervention in Syria, adding that the Turkish Chief of Staff is preparing 18,000 troops for the operation.

The newspaper said that the decision to intervene comes "after the Kurdish forces had displaced Turkmen and Arabs in northern Syria, in an attempt to create an independent Kurdish entity in northern Syria".
