On Monday, Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem met Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
During the meeting, Muallem briefed Makei on the latest field and political developments in Syria and the discussions that were held with Russian to reach the Idleb agreement.
He clarified that Syria is awaiting the implementation of Turkey’s obligations regarding the agreement, affirming the priority of completely liberating Idleb.
“Syria is determined to reach a political solution, based on the respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The solution should be realized under a Syrian leadership without any foreign intervention,” Muallem said, adding that Syria welcomes the return of displaced Syrians to their homeland.
For his part, the Belarusian Foreign Minister expressed his country’s appreciation for Syria’s achievements in combating terrorism and defending its sovereignty and independence, stressing Belarus’ permanent endeavors to boost bilateral relations in all fields.
