Clashes between the Islamic Army and the Ahrar al-Sham movement were renewed on Sunday near Bab al-Hawa, the strategic border crossing of with Turkey, activists said.
The Islamic Army spokesman, captain Islam Alloush, in a statement to Zaman al-Wasl, downplayed the escalation of the infighting, saying it will be "resolved soon".
Zahran Alloush, the Islamic Army commander, in a tweet on his official Twitter account, said that the Islamic Army and Ahrar al-Sham will remain brothers, telling his rivals: “you can die of your anger because the Islamic Army and Ahrar al-Sham will stand against you”.
Field sources said Ahrar al-Sham fighters stormed the checkpoints of Islamic Army on Saturday. The sudden attack prompted the Islamic Army to mobilize fighters to retaliate.
Activists have criticized the constant rifts between rebels over small interests while Bashar al-Assad’s forces are pressing slow advances in rebel-held areas in the north of Syria.
