It emphasized the urgent need to uphold the principles of accountability and human rights in Syria, particularly regarding the investigation of human rights violations.

Arab Normalization Triggers New Wave of Syrian Refugees to Europe

In a tweet from Berlin, it was stated that Germany would steadfastly support the Syrian opposition and people. They expressed their commitment to promoting an inclusive UN-led political solution in accordance with resolution 2254 and emphasized the importance of a condition-based approach towards the regime.

The delegation of the negotiating committee, in response, highlighted that the ongoing suffering of the Syrian people will persist until a political solution based on international resolutions, and the full implementation of resolution 2254, is achieved. They stressed the imperative of holding the regime accountable for its crimes in Syria and urged for an end to the suffering of Syrians, as well as the release of detainees held in regime prisons.

The negotiating delegation strongly emphasized that the complete implementation of Security Council resolution 2254 is the sole political solution for Syria. They highlighted that the Syrian people persist in their revolution and will not accept any solutions that fail to achieve their goals, as they have paid a significant price for their struggle.

Previously, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock issued a warning to Arab countries regarding the normalization of relations with the Syrian regime without preconditions. During her visit to the State of Qatar in May, she stressed that any engagement with Assad should be contingent upon concrete concessions, emphasizing that rewarding him for the grave human rights violations he has committed would be inappropriate.
