New Cabinet Sworn In

Members of the new Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Wael al-Halki were sworn in before President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday.

In a meeting to give direction to the new Cabinet members, Assad said the government must provide a new vision to overcome and avoid negative aspects of the previous stage, despite the current circumstances.

President Assad said the success of the government depends on earning citizens’ trust through transparency and credibility, involving citizens at a personal and institutional level, and respecting their intelligence and dignity.

The president said that the first challenge facing the government is restoring security and the war on terrorist organizations. This issue, the president said, “is being addressed by the Defense Ministry, the Army and Armed Forces, with a high level of patriotism, resulting in remarkable successes in this field."

Assad said that the members of the government must continue efforts to ensure the continued flow of basic goods and services and support the sectors that played a vital role in Syria’s steadfastness.

He stressed that morality, education and the cultural process must be given the necessary attention to help overcome the effect of the crisis on future generations.

Assad said the main issue in the coming stage is reconstruction, whether in areas that have been secured after they were cleared of terrorists or in unregulated urban settlement areas.

The government “must take all possible steps to realize justice, prevent monopolies, monitor prices, and combat crisis profiteers,” Assad added.
