Syrian – Jordanian Economic Forum Held in Damascus

The Syrian-Jordanian Economic Forum continued on Sunday its second day of activities with the participation of more than 90 Jordanian companies and businessmen at the Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus.

The Forum was organized by the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce, under the patronage of the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade.

In the presence of Ministers of Industry Ziad Sabbagh and Agriculture Eng. Muhammad Hassan Qatana, the participants in the working sessions will discuss the prospects of cooperation and industrial and agricultural integration between Jordan and Syria as well as the promising opportunities.

In a statement to SANA, Dr. Irfan Al-Khasawneh, Director General of the Syrian-Jordanian Free Zone, stressed that the forum constitutes an opportunity for Syrian and Jordanian businessmen and investors to meet.

“The forum discussed all the obstacles and challenges to trade between the two countries” the head of the Syndicate of Owners of Clearance and Cargo Transport Companies Daifallah Abu Aqoula said, adding that the Jordanian government provides all facilities and exemptions for the crossing of the goods at the lowest costs and as fast as possible.

Rami Al-Ahmad, director of the Canning Industry Company in Jordan indicated that the Syrian market is considered as the main targeted market in the region for Jordanian businessmen.

General-Director of the Industrial Estates Company in Jordan(JIEC), Omar Juwaid hailed the large attendance at the forum from the two countries’ businessmen.

Juwaid highlighted the importance of making the investors from the Syrian side acquainted with the environment and industrial investment in Jordan, and the advantages provided by industrial cities, in a way that achieves industrial integration between Jordan and Syria, to serve the interests of the two countries.

The Syrian-Jordanian Economic Forum began on Saturday and continues till Monday.

The event discusses the prospects of cooperation in the fields of renewable energies, information and communications technology (ICT), health care and medical tourism, among others.
