Swedish Delegation Confirms Support to AANES

Frederic Florn, head of a Swedish delegation, stressed his country’s continuing support to the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in their struggle against terrorism.

On Monday, a Swedish delegation, including ambassador Frederic Florn and his deputy, Mrs Christine Hedenberg, visited the AANES Foreign Relations Office in Qamishli city, northeast Syria.

Ambassador Florin said that they discussed with representatives of the AANES’ Office of Foreign Relations important issues regarding the security and humanitarian aspects and ways to combat terrorism in northeastern Syria.

The delegation met with Abdulkarim Omar, the co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations, Shewaz Khalil, the head of the Europe department, and Lana Hussein, the head of the Relations Office of Women’s Protection Units.

Abdulkarim Omar touched on the recent Islamic State Organization (ISIS) attack and jailbreak in the al-Sinaa Prison in Syria’s Hassakeh in January that aimed to sow disorder among communities of northeast Syria, destabilize the region, and revive ISIS.

He renewed calls to the international community to assume its responsibilities and provide political, economic, relief and security support to the AANES-held areas.

The two parties signed a document according to which the Swedish delegation received two women that were former ISIS members with their two children.

In late January, the AANES handed over a number of children and members of ISIS to a Swedish delegation according to an official document.

In 2021, the AANES handed over 324 children and women of ISIS families to western countries, including 20 children and women of Sweden.

During the period between 2019 and the end of 2021, the AANES handed over 995 children and women of ISIS foreign members to their countries, according to official statistics.
