Regime Retaliates to Weekend Attacks, Kills 5 Civilians

Regime air strikes have killed two children and three women in the rebel-held city of Douma near Damascus, according the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Activists claimed Bashar al-Assad’s helicopters dropped barrel bombs on the hometown of Army of Islam commander, Zahran Alloush, in retaliation for Sunday’s 100-rocket attack on Damascus.

The embattled city of Douma has paid a high price as regime warplanes relentlessly pound the city with barrel bombs, carrying out hundreds of strikes in the past year.

Douma was amongst the first areas to demonstrate against Assad in March 2011.

The Syrian conflict began as a peaceful movement that mutated into a civil war killing more than 200,000 people and forcing half the country’s population to flee their homes.
