Syrian opposition fighters repulsed the attempt by regime forces an loyalists to storm the Jobar neighborhood east of Damascus.
Seprataely, in Aleppo, six children from one family were killed in an air raid on the city and three other children were killed as a result of regime's bombardment in other areas.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said clashes continued yesterday between opposition fighters and regime forces supported by the troops from the National Defense Forces in the vicinity of the Arifa checkpoint in the region between Abbasine and Jobar east of Damascus. Other areas in the district of Qaboun were shelled by regime forces.
Activists said opposition fighters had repelled the attempt, which used tanks under the cover of airstrikes to storm the region, while the Observatory said that "regime's forces blew up a number of tunnels in the vicinity of the Arifa border in the neighborhood of Jobar which was dominated by the opposition."
Elsewhere in southern Syria between Damascus and Jordan helicopters dropped several explosive barrels on areas in the towns of Dael and Tafas and the cities of Ankhel and Nawa, while Islamic battalions targeted a regime vehicle carrying heavy machine guns in the city of Bosra ash-Sham. There were also about casualties among regime forces there.
The Free Syrian Army also launched three new battles in the Deraa countryside in order to control the strategic areas in the southern region of Damascus, down to the southern gate of the capital.
In northern Syria meanwhile, "six children from the village of al-Wahshiyah in the northern countryside of Aleppo were killed due to aerial bombardment on the village", according to the Observatory, which explained that the children were three males and three females from a "Muslim" family. The town is located to the north of Aleppo, the largest city in the north of the country, which has seen daily battles since the summer of 2012, and where regime and the opposition forces share control of its neighborhoods.
Opposition-held areas in Aleppo and its countryside are exposed to heavy bombardment by regime aviation forces since the end of 2013, killing more than 2,000 civilians since the beginning of 2014, according to the Observatory.
The director of the Observatory, Rami Abdulrahman, told AFP that regime air forces recently intensified the airstrikes in the north of Aleppo "in an attempt to disperse opposition fighters and restore the areas they control, in particular the town of Mare".
Two people were killed, including a boy aged 15, in an airstrike on the town of Allatamneh in Hama, and a seven-year-old girl was killed in the artillery shelling on the opposition-held town of Jisr al-Shughour in the countryside of Edlib, according to the Observatory, which said "violent clashes between forces loyal to the regime, the Islamic battalions and the Nusra Front took place in the southern and eastern sides of the town of Morek in the northern countryside of Hama, and there is news about casualties among regime forces".
In the countryside of Deir El-Zor, which is now almost entirely under the control of the Islamic State, a six-year-old girl was killed in an airstrike on the village of Al-Koshkiah, east of the province.
