Government Military Reinforcements Brought in Suweida

The Syrian government sent on Wednesday military reinforcements to the center of Syria’s southern governorate of Suweida on the back of the protests that have been staged for five consecutive days there.

Reinforcements arrived from Damascus passing through the Shahba checkpoint north of the city, a local source told North Press.

For the fifth successive day, residents of Suweida have been staging peaceful protests and blocking routes in eastern and western villages, against deteriorating livelihood conditions following the government decision to lift the subsidy for thousands of families.

The governorate witnessed intensive deployments of the government security forces during last few days in light of the ongoing protests which coincided with calls for gathering at the Karama square in the city center.
