President Bashar al-Assad on Thursday laid the foundation stone of Project 66 to regulate al-Razi housing area, located near Mezzeh highway in Damascus city.
Following the ceremony, the president visited the building of the Regulation Directorate, where he was briefed on the area to be regulated, its stages of implementation, the number of beneficiaries and its temporary and permanent job opportunities.
President Assad toured a number of offices at the directorate and was briefed by employees on services provided by the department to the people targeted in the project.
During the meeting, Assad stressed the importance of sticking to schedules and maintaining technical quality in order to set an example for following projects within the reconstruction process.
The targeted area will cover over two million square meters and include 12,000 housing units that can accommodate approximately 60,000 people. The project will provide 110,000 employment opportunities and 27,000 permanent jobs.
The area will include parks, water areas and commercial, investment and administrative buildings, including two health centers, a firefighting center, 17 schools, a kindergarten, five places of worship and a multi-story car park.
