The Syrian army has captured parts of the Islamic State (ISIS)-held city of Mayadeen as part of its continued military operations against the terrorist group in Deir-ez-Zor.
A SANA reporter said that government forces took control of the village of Al-Tibeh adjacent to the city, allowing them to advance into Mayadeen's neighborhoods from the western side, namely the districts of Baloum, Madajin and the industrial area.
The reporter added that fierce clashes erupted between the Syrian army and ISIS militants in Khsham-Hatla and in the Orfi and Sinaa fronts in Deir-ez-Zor city, killing and wounding many of the terrorists.
Syrian artillery and air forces destroyed fortified ISIS positions and vehicles in the cities of Mayadeen and Al-Muhasan, as well as in several nearby villages, the reporter said.
Local sources in the southeastern countryside of Deir-ez-Zor reported that ISIS militants executed three people in the city of Al-Bukamal, a day after a civilian was killed and his body hung up in the center of the village of Al-Hissan.
On a related note, five families from Mayadeen have been evacuated to the city of Deir-ez-Zor with the help of Syrian government forces.
The evacuees called on the residents living in areas controlled by the terrorist organization in Deir-ez-Zor's countryside to head to the nearest Syrian army checkpoints.
