Director of Planning and Cooperation in the Ministry of Education, Huda Sheikh ash-Shabab, confirmed the number of schools “partially-affected” by military operations numbers about 880 campuses, with 1,129 more schools “completely destroyed” and in need of reconstruction.
The Ministry of Education carried out maintenance and restoration operations in a number of destroyed schools and educational buildings inside safe provinces.
The director confirmed that the number of restored schools in 2014 reached 1,142, totaling around 607.838 million Syrian pounds, with the cost of damage (buildings and equipment) estimated to be more than 170 billion pounds.
In 2014, 53 schools were rehabilitated with a capacity of 1,750 students.
