ISIS Attack in Badia Kills Five Syrian Soldiers

On Sunday evening, five soldiers died and 20 others were injured as a result of an overnight bus being attacked by a group believed to be affiliated with ISIS, near the village of Hamima, located deep in the Syrian Badia.

Field sources told Athr Press, “The attack, which was carried out on a road connecting the second and third stations (T2-T3), was carried out by an ISIS group that came out of the area surrounding the town of al-Tanf, known as Area 55 km. They carried out the attack using a guided missile followed by targeting with bursts of a 23 caliber cannon.”

The 55-kilometer area, which surrounds the illegal base of U.S. forces, is one of the most secure areas for ISIS because U.S. forces consider it a de-escalation zone surrounding the base which was established under the pretext of fighting the organization. However, the U.S. has not carried out any operation against it since its establishment.

On Monday morning, an official military source said, “At approximately 19:00 on 2/1/2022, a military transport bus was attacked by a terrorist missile attack in the area 55 km, east of the third station in the Syrian Badia by a group of ISIS terrorist organization. The attack was followed by bursts of a 23 mm caliber cannon, killing five soldiers and injuring 20 others,” the official SANA news agency reported.

“The Syrian army has pushed huge military reinforcements over the past few days towards the eastern city of Homs, specifically the axes around Palmyra and Badia al-Sukhna,” a field source told Athr Press.

“These reinforcements are part of the Syrian army’s plan to strengthen its military positions in the region, after monitoring the unusual activity of cells believed to be affiliated with ISIS trying to move through the axis of the al-Tanf area, which is under the control of U.S. forces, toward the axes of Badia Sukhna. Therefore, these armed groups are clearly supported by U.S. forces with the aim of carrying out attacks in the region,” the source said.
