The title of 'Traffic Emir' has been created in one of the emirates claimed by the Al-Qaeda-linked Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS).
The Emir in Raqqa will control traffic movement, backed by dozens of staff equipped with black uniforms, local sources reported.
The main responsibilities of the new department are similar to other traffic police worldwide; they will issue tickets and impose financial penalties ranging from between 1,000 and 12,000 Syrian Pounds for those who breach traffic and safety laws.
