Aleppo MP Ali al-Sattouf warned the government that, “We must take into account the possibility of a group or groups of citizens in this area protesting over hunger or fear of hunger,” calling on the government to, “take a realistic look at people’s lives.”
Sattouf said in a speech in parliament that the government must “re-examine people’s lives despite the difficult and exceptional conditions through which it is working, ”describing poverty” as being an alien in the country, and saying “the inflation in the markets is larger than the capacities of citizens whose average income ranges between 30,000 to 35,000 Syrian pounds.”

Prime Minister Imad Khamis said during the same session in his repose to questions from MPs that “what has been reported about the inflation in the markets is correct,” saying that, “the constant reason for the increase in prices and inflation is either monopoly or lack of supply.” He said that ration control was addressing monopolies, and with regard to the prices, the solution was to increase production or imports.
