Syria Says International Community’s Silence Encourages Israel Attacks

Syria condemned in the strongest terms the crimes of the Israel occupation forces and settlers and their attacks on the Palestinian people, particularly in Jerusalem.

“Syria renews its commitment to support the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital,” Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, said at the UN Security Council session on the situation in the Middle East on Monday.

“The Israeli continued attacks on Syrian territories pose threat to Syria’s security, the region and its stability and they require immediate condemnation and urgent intervention by UN Security Council and General Secretariat in order to protect the Disengagement of Forces agreement of 1974,” Sabbagh said.

He added that the silence of the international community towards the Israeli aggression and the occupation practices in Golan encourage it to go too far in these practices and question the UN’s credibility.

Sabbagh said that Syria reaffirms its firm commitment to its right to return the whole Golan with all available means guaranteed by international law as it is an imprescriptible right.
