On Sunday, official pages associated with the Assad regime depicted the funeral of eight regime officers, who were killed days earlier in an ambush in the Syrian Badia. This development comes amidst repeated shootings, bombings, and attacks on regime militia positions in those eastern governorates.

Among the dead were an officer from the paratrooper brigade ranks, a captain, and six others holding the rank of first lieutenant, who formed part of an official procession this morning from the Homs Military Hospital. The victims were killed during an attack on their military convoy in Palmyra, in the Badia, east of the third station in the eastern countryside of Homs.

The pages reported that the deceased were Major-General Muwaffaq Suleiman Mohammed, Captain Hazeqil Taha Suleiman, and several lieutenants — namely, Ali Mohammed Saleh, Nawras Ghazi Ali, Saadallah Rafik Marrush, Sharaf Bahielddine al-Falah – Sharaf Ibrahim Qadro – Mohammed Hammoud al-Hammoud.

Several regime officers known to have committed war crimes against the Syrian people participated in the official funeral. Attending were the chairman of the Homs Security and Military Committee, the commander of the central region, the governor, and the regime’s police chief in Homs.
