The Minister of Social Affairs Kinda al-Shammat said on Tuesday that the number of displaced people inside Syria as a result of the crisis has risen to 5.7 million.
Most of these families have lost their main source of income and drained their savings in light of rising commodity and food prices, meaning they are living at subsistence level.
Shammat said Syrians are also suffering from damage to infrastructure, affecting education and health, despite the fact that Syria had developed significantly before the crisis in the fields of literacy and school attendance.
She said the government is making huge efforts to mitigate the effects of the crisis on schools and providing all essential medicine and vaccines.
Shammat emphasized that the government bears the brunt of humanitarian aid, providing up to 80%, while the contribution from international organizations in this field is about 20%.
Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi in August said that the government opened nearly 830 centers to house the temporarily displaced people, these centers house nearly 170,000 people.
He said the total number of displaced families reached 918,000 thousand families, or 4.9 million individuals in all provinces. Around 170,000 people took refuge in government shelters, which offer them all services, while the rest are distributed among the residential neighborhoods which are relatively quiet.
