The UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, met with the President of the Syrian High Negotiations Committee, Nasr al-Hariri, to discuss developments in Syria.

The High Committee said on Twitter that Pedersen and Hariri met on Thursday in Geneva and discussed the humanitarian situation and the situation on the ground in Idleb in northwest Syria, in light of the ceasefire in the area.

The two also discussed developments related to the political process, including the Syrian constitutional committee and its formation and the need to find a clear mechanism for its operations and tasks, according to the statement, as well as highlighting the issue of Syrian prisoners and the conditions in Syria’s northeast.

Pedersen carried out a number of tours before meeting Hariri, going to Iran and meeting Foreign Minister Javad Zarif. He also visited Turkey at the start of September, meeting the Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal.

Pedersen has recently intensified his tours in the context of putting the “final touches” to the constitutional committee, which was agreed to be formed at the Sochi conference at the start of 2018.

Pedersen is expected to form the committee before the end of September.
