U.S. Block of SITA Network Political

Head of Syrian Arab Airlines says decision to remove the airline from the international network is a political move that harms passengers

Syrian Arab Airlines director General Mousab Arsalan said that the U.S. decision to block the SITA network, one of the main servers used to issue electronic tickets, make reservations and coordinate air traffic information, is a political move that serves counties supporting terrorism in Syria.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, Arsalan said that the U.S. move is a breach of an agreement between the Airlines Company and SITA, adding that Syrian Arab Airlines was one of the companies that founded the network.

"This move could have a direct negative impact on Syrian, Arab and foreign passengers, and contradicts the very same claims made to justify the measure," Arsalan said.

"The decision came within a framework of unjust sanctions imposed on Syria," he said, adding that the company is working on how to deal with the effects of the decision by finding an appropriate alternative.

He said the company will  take legal action to guarantee the rights of the company are upheld and to secure compensation for damage and interruption to its work.
