Paris Lifts Ban on Frozen Regime Funds

The regime has been trying for several months ago to purchase sugar, wheat and rice

A spokeswoman of the French Ministry of Trade has said that France has unfrozen some regime bank accounts in Damascus in order to finance food exports to Syria under the framework of the European Union, which allows the use of such funds for humanitarian purposes.

"Member States of the European Union and the Commission received approvals issued by the French authorities," the spokeswoman said, adding that such approvals authorize the finance of exports of food commodities using the frozen funds of Syrian banks included under EU sanctions. However she did not say when were those approvals were issued.

The regime has been trying for several months ago to purchase sugar, wheat and rice through international tenders using frozen funds abroad, but so far has been unsuccessful.
