A top commander of pro-regime National Defence Forces (NDF) has been killed by a landmine explosion near the town of Mleiha, east Damascus, activists said on Monday.
Captain Rudein Ali Issa was an NDF leader in the Damascus Southern Front.
For months, Bashar Assad’s forces, backed by the Lebanese Shiia group, Hezbollah, have been battling to recapture Mleiha, a strategic rebel bastion.
Mleiha has been under siege for more than a year, and under near-constant bombardment for months.
