Shaaban: Syrians Steadfast Against Terrorism

Presidential Political and Media Advisor Bouthaina Shaaban said that the Syrian people’s steadfastness in the face of the terrorism targeting it throughout the current crisis has etsanblished a new phase in the history of Syria, the region, and the world.

In an interview with Syrian TV on Friday evening, Shaaban said that terrorism seeks to destroy Arab culture, identity, history, and civilization; therefore the coming stage must focus on preserving them.

She said that President Bashar Assad's speech, delivered after he was sworn in as President for a third term, tackled the local, Arab, and international situation with honesty and transparency and with the aim of building on new foundationf and changing thoughts, methods, and styles. She said the speech proposed solutions not just for Syria, but for the entire Arab world and emphasized its independence of thought.

Shaaban noted that the speech also referred to the role of internal media in asking questions and investigating what is actually happening, so that it may play an active part in combating corruption and improving the state, stressing that combating corruption should be enhanced through institutions and developing a sense of citizenship.

She also said that dialogue and reconciliation are important cornerstones for the next stage, and that the general amnesty decrees issued by President Assad are an expression of the desire for all Syrians to unite under the banner of the homeland and leave the hatred and grudges behind, also asserting that reconciliation and dialogue are inevitable and necessary after any crisis and thus dialogue must be encouraged in all aspects.
