The Minister of Electricity, Imad Khamis, stressed the need to develop mechanisms and viable plans to overcome problems with the power grid in Syria.

During his meeting with officials from various provinces and electricity departments on Saturday, Khamis highlighted the need to adopt exceptional measures that would limit the effects of the crisis on the ministry's future plans.

He called upon all citizens to shoulder their responsibilities in protecting this vital sector, vowing to continue fighting corruption, mismanagement and the squandering of funds.

In statements to SANA, Director of the Electric Power Company, Mohammad Abdullah said the company has big plans for producing electricity from a power station in the southern region with a capacity of 750 megawatts and a similar one in Jandar with 450 megawatts capacity.

He said the company also signed a contract with a Russian firm to build a new power generator in Tishreen Thermal Power Plant, with a capacity of 600 megawatts, adding that the results of these projects will be felt from next week.
