Syrian Opposition Meets Egyptian Foreign Minister

A delegation from the Syrian opposition met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry to discuss several issues related to the Syrian crisis, including the external, regional, and internal developments.

A source attending the meeting told Madar al-Yawm that the follow-up committee of the Syrian opposition’s Cairo meeting included Fayez Sara, Haytham Manna, Khaled al-Mahamid, Qasim al-Khatib, Walid al-Bunni, Salah Nabawani and others.

The source added that UN envoy de Mistura's plan was also discussed, along with details of the Cairo conference of the Syrian opposition scheduled for April. The source also confirmed that the Syrian opposition delegation presented its views about the upcoming meeting, requesting the inclusion of all parties of the Syrian opposition, both inside Syria and abroad.

The source pointed out that the measures would not exclude any party from the Syrian opposition, so that officials or representatives of those parties will attend the meeting in order to agree on a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

The source also explained that those who believe Bashar al-Assad was absent from the previous negotiations are mistaken, as his delegation was in regular contact with the president during meetings.

Concerning statements by Coalition President Khaled Khoja on the negotiations, the source said the atmosphere and reaction reveals a positive attitude, stating that the opposition has not abandoned its goal of toppling Assad.
