Rebels Kill National Defense Forces Reporter in Damascus

Pro-regime media confirms death of paramilitary reporter Thaer Ajlani following an injury sustained to his abdomen in Damascus

Opposition forces killed three officers in addition to the head of the Information Branch of the National Defense Forces (NDF) militia, Thaer al-Ajlani, in the Jobar neighborhood of Damascus. Ajalani was known to accompany regime forces into battle near Damascus.

In addition to his work in the NDF, Ajlani worked as a reporter for several media outlets, including the pro-regime Sham FM radio station and the Lebanese LBC International TV channel.

Pro-regime media confirmed Ajlani's death, with Damascus Now Facebook page posting a video clip of Ajlani in hospital suffering an injury in the abdomen.

Omar Abu Ghaith, a member of the Media Office of ar-Rahman Corps, told al-Souria Net: "The jihadists were able to face the regime's attempts to storm Jobar neighborhood, even though regime forces used powerful weapons and missiles". Abu Ghaith added that a number of regime officers, including Major Hassan Qantar, Captain Samer Mafhous and Sergeant Ali Mohamed were also killed during the campaign on Jobar neighborhood.

Ajlani was known for his strong support of the Assad regime, inciting violence against opposition-held areas in the countryside of Damascus and openly supporting bombing operations on opposition-held areas.

Ajlani recently appeared in Deir-ez-Zor, covering battles between regime forces and ISIS near Deir-ez-Zor Military Airport, also appearing several times alongside Issam Zahreddine, a regime officer accused of committing abuses against civilians, according to opposition sources.
