Russia’s Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that it had invited members of the opposition Syrian National Coalition (SNC) to visit Moscow next week.
The brief statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry explained: "The ministry has invited a number of members in the National Coalition to visit Moscow, and that it is assumed that the visit will take place next week." No further details were mentioned.
Member of the Coalition’s political commission, Badr Jamous, said earlier in a press statement to Russian media that the SNC had received an invitation to visit Moscow from August 12-13, but the precise date of the visit was yet to be confirmed.
Earlier this year, the Coalition publicly refused Russia’s invitation to attend two rounds of dialogue between the Assad regime and a number of opposition parties.
