Newly Imported Precious Metals Soon Available on Syrian Market

The price of a gram of 21-carat gold recorded 9,800 Syrian Pounds, 50 pounds less than the previous week

Newly-imported precious metals will be available on the Syrian market soon, while gold has held its prices in the market despite recent fluctuations in the exchange rate between Syrian Pounds (SP) and the U.S. dollar. Worldwide gold prices have remained unchanged for the second week in a row. Despite the record rise of dollar to SYP exchange rate, gold prices witnessed only a “slight” decline.

The head of the Goldsmiths Association in Damascus, Ghassan Jazmati, said that the price of a gram of 21-carat gold recorded SYP 9,800, 50 pounds less than the previous week, while a gram of 18-carat gold sold for SYP 8,400. The price of one Syrian gold lira was SYP 80,500, while a Syrian gold ounce could be bought for SYP 355,000.
