Iran and Greece Open Airspace for Russian Humanitarian Aid to Syria

Sources at the Russian embassies in Tehran and Athens said that Iran and Greece recently allowed Russian aircrafts to transport humanitarian aid to Syria through their airspace.

A source at the Russian embassy in Tehran stated that the embassy received permission for all requests by Russian planes carrying humanitarian aid to Syria to pass through Iran’s airspace. The source also said that the embassy would coordinate with the Iranian government in a direct and constant manner.

Another source at the Russian embassy in Athens explained that the embassy too had received permits and a memo from the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs approving the use of Greece’s airspace by the Russian aircrafts.

Earlier on Sunday, a Greek diplomatic source said that Greek authorities refused requests from the U.S. government to prohibit Russians from using the country’s airspace.
