Suwaida Youths Refuse Recruitment to Assad’s Militias

Syria’s main political opposition has lauded Suwaida’s youths for resisting the Assad regime’s attempts to recruit locals of the province into its allied militias.

The Syrian National Coalition stressed that the calls by national and youth forces in the villages of Salkhad, Al-Qurayya, Arman, Al-Jeneina, and Al-Gharia to resist military conscription reflects the growing national sentiment in all Syrian provinces. These calls represent a rejection of Assad’s attempts to drag Syria into more violence and destruction, it added.

Moreover, the Coalition stated that the attitudes of the residents of Suwaida foil the plans of the Assad regime and its allied Hezbollah militia who seek to ignite sedition and sow division among Syrians. The efforts also restore national cohesion as a basis for countering Assad’s terrorism and crimes against the Syrian people, it said.
