At least 80 regime troops have been killed and 170 more wounded in the ongoing offensive on the town of Khan al-Shih on the western outskirts of Damascus, activists said.
Local coordination committees said regime forces are planning to overrun Khan al-Shih, the key Western Ghouta suburb, taking advantage from the Russian aerial support and allied militias.
Rebel factions have inflicted humiliating defeats on regime forces, according to activists, after 250 troops have been reported killed and wounded.
Activist Diaa Assoud said regime helicopters had dropped about 50 barrel bombs on the town in the past two days as Russia's warplanes carried out six raids on Wednesday.
At least seven civilians, including two children, were killed on Tuesday when regime forces opened fire on a minibus in Khan al-Shih.
