Damascus Countryside Governor Announces Upcoming Settlement in Eastern Ghouta

Damascus Countryside Governor Alaa Munir Ibrahim met with representatives of local reconciliation committees and Russian observers on Sunday to review the results of the reconciliations in villages and towns in the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus.

Governor Alaa Ibrahim affirmed that a reconciliation agreement will take place in the Eastern Ghouta within the next few days, adding that an expanded negotiation committee has been formed to communicate with the locals and militants in the Eastern Ghouta.

Meanwhile, committee members affirmed that most of the locals in Eastern Ghouta wanted successful reconciliations, in contrast to those with links to terrorist groups (like Nusra Front) who have actively attempted to obstruct the settlement process.

Participants at the meeting stressed that locals should take advantage of the presidential amnesty before the deadline ends on January 27, urging all parties to accept the reconciliation and put an end to the presence of arms and gunmen in the region.
