MPs Review Parliamentary Committee Report on 2018 Budget

Syria’s parliament met on Sunday to discuss a Budget and Accounts Committee report on the general budget bill for 2018.

In a session chaired by Speaker Hammoudeh Sabbagh, the Committee stressed the need to address a number of issues, including inflation, ending monopolies and price manipulation, linking wages to production, stimulating producers, reviewing tax policies, and rationalizing public spending.

In turn, MPs called for enhancing the support for families of martyrs and wounded, increasing state salaries and wages, improving the living standards of citizens, securing their basic needs at appropriate prices, and reducing the prices of fuel derivatives.

Parliamentarians also demanded the government not impose any new taxes or fees on citizens.
