Damascus Condemns U.S. Plans to Form Militia in Syria’s Northeast

Syria strongly condemned the American announcement that an armed militia would be formed in northeastern Syria as a blatant breach of sovereignty and a flagrant violation of international law, an official Foreign Ministry source said Monday.

The source added that the U.S. step came within the framework of its destructive policies, which aim at fragmenting the region, fueling tensions and conflicts, and hindering solutions to its crises. It added that the move clearly shows American hostility toward the Arab nation in order to implement the U.S.-Zionist scheme.

Syria, the source said, urges the international community to denounce this American step and take action to end to the mentality of domination and arrogance which govern the Trump administration’s policies, warning of its negative consequences on international peace and security.

Syrian citizens who take part in the U.S.-backed militia would be considered traitors, the ministry source said.
