UK Blames Assad, Allies for Carrying Out Massacres in Aleppo

The British foreign ministry blamed Moscow, Assad and Iran for carrying out massacres in Syria as government and Russian forces continued their heavy military campaign against Aleppo on Tuesday, bombarding residential areas from the air and claiming the lives of civilians.

The civil defense in Aleppo said that the Al-Mashhad district was hit by air strikes with vacuum bombs, killing six people in the preliminary toll, in addition to wounding others.

The civil defense counted 15 air strikes on residential areas since the start of the day, in addition to dozens of mortar strikes, while local sources said teams were still recovering the remains of victims.

In a related context, British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson blamed the regime, Russia, and Iranian-back militias of carrying out a large proportion of the massacres in the city of Aleppo.

In a press conference held with his Turkish counterpart in Ankara on Tuesday, Johnson expressed his country’s support for Operation Euphrates Shield which Turkish units launched against the Islamic State organization in Syria in August.

Johnson said that he visited refugee camps in the city of Gaziantep in southern Turkey as part of his visit to Turkey, adding that he witnessed the heroic efforts by the Turkish government in confronting the refugee crisis.

The British minister said that Turkey was hosting about 3 million Syrians on its territory, and expressed his pride in the British government’s support to refugees, with his country the second largest contributor to humanitarian aid in the world.

Johnson said that Britain was taking, alongside Turkey, common positions against the Kurdish PKK and the Islamic State group, adding that the world and the British people know that Turkey occupies an important place in global security.
