Syria's opposition Syrian National Coalition has called on the U.S. congress to approve military action against President Bashar Assad but said any intervention should be accompanied by more arms for the rebels.
A senior opposition member told Zaman al-Wasl that the Coalition envoy in Washington has a plan to encourage public support for American intervention.
The main stream opposition body plans to send a delegation to encourage senators to vote yes in cooperation with the political body and general secretary of the Coalition.
"Dictatorships like Iran and North Korea are watching closely to see how the free world responds to the Assad regime's use of chemical weapons against the Syrian people," the Coalition said in a statement issued in Istanbul.
"If the free world fails to respond to such an outrageous breach of international norms, dictators around the world will be encouraged in their efforts to follow the example set by Assad," it said, according to Reuters.
