Syria condemned on Thursday what it called the "disgraceful" conduct of the Turkish government and the other parties working with it, holding them fundamentally responsible for the crisis in Syria and the continued bloodshed through their support to the terrorist organizations.
"Once again, Turkey proves its conspiratorial role, premeditated intentions and flagrant intervention in the Syrian affair," a statement from the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said.
The latest proof of Turkish intervention, which the statement referred to, was the "violation of the Syrian border area at Ayn al-Arab, by allowing foreign forces and terrorist elements operating on [Turkey's] land to cross into the Syrian territories.”
The Foreign Ministry slammed the Turkish government’s acts as a “blatant encroachment” upon Syrian sovereignty and a "violation of the principles and goals of the U.N. Charter and the rules of the international law.
The Ministry’s statement, obtained by SANA, highlighted the “existing connection between the Turkish Justice and Development Party government and the terrorist organizations, the top of them being the Islamic State of iraq and Syria (ISIS), the Nusra Front and Al-Qaeda affiliates."
This connection “is not a secret anymore," the ministry said.
While reiterating that the relation between Turkey and terrorist organizations constitutes a breach of the U.N. Security Council’s resolutions in relation to counterterrorism, the statement made it clear that there is much proof of this relation.
Citing one example, the Foreign Ministry referred to the Turkish government’s preventing Syrian residents from Ayn al-Arab city who are in the Turkish territory from crossing the border to rescue their fellow citizens and defend their city against the ISIS terrorist organization which has been trying to seize control of the area for weeks.
"The Turkish government has unveiled its hostile intentions against Syria’s unity and territorial integrity through its attempts to exploit the steadfastness of our people in Ayn al-Arab to pass its expansionist plans by allowing in terrorist elements aided and abetted by it with the aim to establish a buffer zone in the Syrian territories," the Foreign Ministry said.
It concluded by saying that Syria condemns and rejects this “disgraceful” behavior of Turkey’s government and the parties complicit, holding them responsible for the crisis in the country.
Syria, the ministry stressed, will continue working to thwart the “dangerous plot” of the Turkish government and affirms its support for its people in Ayn al-Arab.
