Syria: Britain’s Position on Syria Shows Brazen Political Hypocrisy

Syria took a scathing swipe at Britain on Sunday over the British position on Syria and the latest statements made by its Foreign Secretary, condemning Britain’s “political hypocrisy”.

In two letters sent to the U.N. Secretary General and Chairman of the U.N. Security Council, the Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Ministry dismissed the escalation in the “brazen” attitude of some British officials on the situation in Syria, including those of the Foreign Office. The British officials, the letters said, are meddling in issues that are not their specialty according to the international law and the U.N. Charter.

The letters further stated that the British government has no right to preach democracy, human rights, and war against terrorism because the country has mustered all of its capabilities and “experience of colonialism” by providing financial, military, political, and media support to “terrorist organizations” in Syria.

The fact that the British government has deployed terrorists to Syria, including Jihadi John, and harbored extremists such as Abu Qatada and Omar Abdel Rahman over several decades reveals its “political hypocrisy and the fallacy of its claims of promoting democracy, human rights and fighting against terrorism,” the letters stated.

The Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said that Britain obviously aims to provide direct support to terrorist organizations in Syria, speculating that this why the British government also sent letters with abstruse titles such as S/641, 2015 to the U.N. Security Council.

The ministry described the attitude of British officials as “outrageous” because they deny Syria’s right to fight terrorism and drive away foreign terrorists, including those from Great Britain.
