Southern Front fighters thwarted an attack launched by regime forces and allied Shiite militias on a border town with Jordan on Wednesday, activists said.
The key Free Syrian Army (FSA) unit repelled a major attack by pro-Assad forces on al-Mousaima town in al-Lajat, near Daraa city, early Wednesday. Most regime fighters who died in the clashes were from Iran and Afghanistan, according to activists.
Al-Lajat region, an FSA stronghold, has erupted into conflict due to its strategic location on the Jordanian border, where the regime seeks to cut the main rebel supply route.
