Relief and humanitarian work in the coming period will focus on moving from emergency intervention to productive intervention, said Chairman of the Higher Committee for Relief Omar Ghalawanji on Monday.
Ghalawanji, who is Minister of Local Administration, was addressing the committee’s first meeting after its restructuring, having its presidency shifted from under the Social Affairs Ministry to the Ministry of Local Administration.
A new mechanism for relief work will be developed, with the new administrative affiliation taken into consideration, said Ghalawanji.
The primary focus, he added, will be to accelerate the process of accomplishing a national database that would enable the government to draw up response plans that observe the major needs and priorities on a national level.
The aim is to access all beneficiaries of the displaced and needy in all provinces and difficult to reach areas, Ghalawanji stressed.
He elaborated on efforts to move from tackling emergency cases that have arisen from a surge in displacement resulting from terrorist acts to a focus on more sustainable and productive solutions.
