The Syrian regime's Education Ministry has halted the salaries of 6,000 teachers in the Kurdish-dominated city of Afrin, in north Aleppo, in an effort to put more pressure on residents in the disputed areas, an opposition figure said.
Mustafa Auso, member of Kurdistan Democratic Party, in a message submitted to the Syrian National Coalition, demanded the key opposition group find "an urgent solution to avoid an imminent crisis", saying 6,000 teachers have no income to afford living expenses amid fears education will be stopped.
Auso said the aim of this arbitrary decision is to put more pressure on the Kurds of the city opposed to the Syrian regime.
