Regime Fighter in Deir-ez-Zor Documents Civilian Execution on Facebook

A fighter in the regime forces published images on Facebook of an execution he carried out against civilians on claims they were members of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Deir-ez-Zor.

The regime fighter said on his page that the murders were in revenge for the dead of Qardaha, President Bashar al-Assad's ancestral town. It subsequently became clear that all those executed were civilians.

In the images of the post, five men in rural clothing appear bound alongside two regime fighters. Accompanying the post were four images taken after the execution was carried out.

The post did not specify the place or time of the execution, but on Facebook pages a number of posts and comments noted the names of the victims, confirming that they were civilians and that the execution was carried out in the town of Al-Shamitiya in the eastern countryside of Deir-ez-Zor, where regime forces and allied militias had entered days ago.

Most criticisms in the comments concentrated on the Assad loyalists from Deir-ez-Zor who had rejoiced at the regime forces and allied militias regaining a number of areas in the province.
